Directions and timing
This is the Reading section of Full-Length Practice Test 2. It has thirty-six questions on four passages of nine questions each, and the time allowed is forty minutes. That works out to about ten minutes for a passage and its set of questions, so pace yourself by the passage, not only by the question. The four passages are Literary Narrative, Social Science (a pair of short passages, G and H), Humanities, and Natural Science.
Read each passage, then answer the questions that follow it, choosing the best answer from the four choices. Base every answer on what the passage states or clearly implies. A choice that is true in the real world but unsupported by the passage is wrong.
How to work it
- Work the passages in any order. Start with the type you read fastest and leave the densest for last.
- Answer every question. Nothing is deducted for a wrong answer, so leave no blank.
- For a detail question, return to the text and find the line before you choose. For an inference question, choose the answer the passage supports most directly, not the most dramatic one.
- For the paired passages, answer the questions about one passage before the questions about the other, and keep a one-line summary of each author's position in the margin.
- Mark any postponed question so you can find it again in the final minutes.
Before you start
Do not open the answers and explanations until all thirty-six questions are done. In your review, read the explanation for every question you missed and every one you guessed, and log whether the miss was a gap in knowledge or an error in execution.
