ACT Math · Lesson 47

Final Skills Check

Fourteen questions, each built to isolate one failure mechanism such as the wrong requested object, a sign flip, a unit slip, or an extraneous root.

Final Skills Check

This short set is not organized by content area at all. Each of its 14 questions is built to isolate one specific failure mechanism named throughout the course:

  • Requested object: answering for xx when the question asks for 3x−13x-1, or for the group that does the opposite of what was asked.
  • Sign or direction: flipping an inequality when dividing by a negative, and rejecting a case that gives a negative absolute value.
  • Unit or dimension: squaring a conversion factor for area, and converting rates.
  • Restriction or domain: extraneous roots, zero denominators, and even roots.
  • Method or execution: recognizing a perfect square, and using total distance over total time.
  • Tool entry: checking a calculator entry once against the printed problem.
  • Representation switch: reading a vertex from a table instead of an equation.
  • Wrong reference base: percent change measured from the original value, and percentage points versus percent.

If a question here goes wrong, the fix usually is not more content review. It is re-reading the specific check that question was built to test. Use this set as a diagnostic: each miss points to a specific check to repair before test day.

Practice set

Exam mode

Exam mode runs on the clock of the real section and holds the explanations until you submit. You then see your score and an explanation for each question.

  • The exam covers 14 questions.
  • A single timer of 16 min runs for the whole set.

Study mode

Study mode lets you answer each question at your own pace and shows the explanation as soon as you check your answer.

  • The 14 questions appear in a new order each session.
  • The explanation opens when you check each answer.
