AP US Government study guide · Chapter 59
Sources and update policy
This edition follows the AP U.S. Government and Politics Course and Exam Description and College Board clarifications effective for the 2026–27 school year. Exam format and digital-testing information were checked against the College Board AP U.S. Government and Politics exam page for the annual May administration.
The required foundational documents and Supreme Court cases follow the College Board course framework in effect for the 2026-27 school year. Supreme Court holdings are described for AP course use, with later doctrinal developments noted when a historical required case no longer states the modern legal test.
Election-law dollar limits are time-sensitive. Federal campaign-contribution figures should be checked against the Federal Election Commission for the election cycle in effect at publication. A cycle-specific dollar amount is not treated as permanent course knowledge.
Voting and registration statistics identified by year come from the U.S. Census Bureau or another source named in the chapter. Monetary-policy descriptions should be checked against Federal Reserve materials when an edition is updated.
For each annual edition, time-sensitive information is rechecked against the College Board course and exam pages, current foundational-document clarifications, Federal Election Commission contribution limits, and any Supreme Court doctrine described as current in the text.
