Directions and Timing
This is a full-length practice module for the Digital SAT Reading and Writing section. It has twenty-seven questions, and you should give yourself thirty-two minutes. Like the real first module, it mixes easy, medium, and hard questions, and on the real test your work in Module 1 determines which second module you receive: a higher-difficulty module if you do well, a lower-difficulty one if you do not. That is why the easy-looking questions deserve the same care as the hard ones.
How to Use This Module
- Set a timer for thirty-two minutes and work without pausing, as you would on test day. That averages a little under 72 seconds per question.
- Every question has four choices and exactly one correct answer. There is no penalty for guessing, so never leave a question blank.
- Use mark for review on any question you want to revisit. On the real test, flagged questions are listed on a review screen before you submit the module.
- Do not skip the easy ones to bank time for the hard ones. A missed easy question costs as much as a missed hard one.
The Question Order
The module follows the order of the real test. It opens with Craft and Structure (words in context, text structure and purpose, cross-text connections), moves to Information and Ideas (central ideas, command of evidence, inferences), then Standard English Conventions (boundaries, form, structure, and sense), and closes with Expression of Ideas (transitions and rhetorical synthesis).
After the Module
Check your answers against the key and read the explanation for every question, including the ones you got right. Each explanation gives the reasoning behind the right answer and behind each of the three wrong ones. A right answer reached for the wrong reason is worth a second look. Note which skills cost you points, then return to that unit for review.
